The inquest of a murdered father of two in Northern Ireland has been dramatically halted after it emerged that a suspect has been wrongly issued with a Government comfort letter assuring him he was not being sought by the authorities. Armagh court heard that in 2008 the so-called "on the run" letter was passed from the Government to Sinn Fein Assembly member Gerry Kelly who then passed it to the individual who has been identified as a suspect in the 2003 killing of Co Armagh man Gareth O'Connor.
